Transforming Lives

La proMesa Familiar is a community based collective that supports mutual aid efforts for individuals struggling to provide food for their families and gives access to resources, education and training.  Through collaborative work, mutual education & networking, we are dedicated to empowering and uplifting the community we serve. 

La proMesa provides food to over 80 Spanish-speaking, multi-generational family households every two weeks. About 200 people directly benefit from La proMesa. Unlike any other local food distribution project,  Our bi-weekly food pantry staples are masa, oil, tortillas, eggs, sugar, flour, beans, rice and produce. During harvest months, the proMesa community harvests produce for the pantry, and for their individual families on off-weeks. The two-week pantry cycle has proven successful and will continue in 2024-2025.

In collaboration with Ben Hanson and 24 Carrot Farm we have a 1/4 acre garden that provides produce to our families in the summer and fall months. The proMesa community garden is an equitable space that relies on families and volunteers to weed, set up trellises, and harvest food. Families decide what crops to grow. This year, we will expand the garden to include a covered plot that will extend the winter growing season. 

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. We offer a variety of opportunities for individuals and groups to get involved and make a difference in the lives of those we serve. 

The Women's Fund El Dorado has voted and awarded La proMesa Familiar with the 2024 Inspiration Grant which will help fund our food pantry table this year.
